Diagnosis of ascites is achieved through a combination of history, bloated appearance, physical examination, x-ray/and/or ultrasound, and abdominocentesis.
As was stated earlier, ascites is typically an indication of serious systemic disease. If you suspect that your pet may have ascites, you should seek veterinary care as soon as possible.
